Richard Garfield's King of Tokyo is a super fun family game.
It was designed for 2-6 players, but as BGG poll rightfully claims 78% of players think it is not-recommended for 2 players. The same poll claims 72% think this game works best for 4 players.
Well, guess what? 2x2=4.
King of Tokyo - The 2 player variant:
Let each player play 2 characters, keeping the same rules - and this game will turn into a battle to the death with all the strategy, luck, blood and excitement you were looking for. (a slightly more advanced "Tag Team" variant is suggested also in BGG).
Who wins?
Whatever works for you. I usually play with "you win if any of your characters wins, or both opponent characters are dead" but you can also try out "you die if any of your characters die" etc'.
This "trick" works wonders for many other games that are best designed for 4 players.
Try it out for Tokaido, Robo Rally etc'
